Firm Legacy

David P Grau

The Grau Law Firm is a tribute to David P. Grau, Esq. who practiced in Willow Grove for over 48 years.  In 2022, following David’s unexpected passing, his son Andrew started The Grau Law Firm, which operates out of David’s long-time location.

In 1973, David graduated law school and passed the Pennsylvania bar exam at the young age of 23.  He practiced with an esteemed Willow Grove firm for 12 years before opening his own law office in 1985.

David was a strong advocate for his clients.  He combined his legal talents with an unparalleled reputation for honesty and character.  David’s Christian faith defined him.  The son of missionaries to Ghana, David spent almost all of the first 13 years of his life in West Africa.  David remained very active in his church, and over many years served in the capacities of Deacon and Elder.

Many of David’s clients were either elderly or had elderly parents.  As a result, over the latter part of David’s career his estate administration practice grew considerably, and became his largest area of focus.

David handled hundreds of estates from beginning to end.  He was known for the speed with which he completed the estate administration process.  Where other firms ran up against deadlines and put inheritance tax returns on extension, David achieved results quickly, which enabled the beneficiaries to receive their inheritances sooner.  His no-nonsense style with banks and financial institutions resulted in prompt action on their part.  His strong reputation with the Register of Wills staff and Orphans’ Court judges enabled him to resolve more complicated cases efficiently.

David provided a level of personal attention that few others could match.  As a sole practitioner, David’s clients knew they would always deal with David himself, and not be passed off to a less experienced attorney.  For those unfamiliar with the duties of an executor, he walked them through the process with clear explanations.  He used ordinary language, not legalese.  David made his clients feel comfortable.

David also assisted clients with estate planning.  He was proficient in preparing wills, trusts, powers of attorney and healthcare directives.  He knew the federal and state rules that impact estate planning, and he knew the questions to ask to develop a plan that is right for the individual client.

David had a rich history as a general practitioner.  He handled many family law, real estate and business matters.  While most of David’s clients were based in Montgomery County, he proudly served the entire Philadelphia region, and sometimes beyond.

David had the personality and the office of a distinguished country lawyer, combined with talent that matched anyone.  David’s son Andrew tries to be as much like him as possible.
